Copying, moving and deleting questions

The copy, move and delete actions are only available in DRAFT surveys.  Once a survey has been launched, the copy, move and delete options are greyed out and these actions cannot be performed.

The copy, move and delete actions are permanent and there is no ‘Undo’ option.  If you are unsure of the effect that a copy, move or delete action will have on your survey, we suggest that you make a copy of your survey and carry out the action on the copy before making any permanent changes to the official version of your survey.

If your question contains sub-questions, copying, moving or deleting the parent question will also copy, move or delete all of the sub-questions.

Copying a question

Questions can be copied within a draft survey, or from one draft survey to another.

To copy a question within a draft survey:

1. Locate the question you wish to copy.
2. Click on the  cog at the top right of the question.
3. Choose Copy.
4. Decide where you would like the copy to be inserted.
   • Inserting the copy within another question (inside the brown box surrounding an existing question) will create a sub-question.
   • If you do not wish to create a sub-question, ensure you insert the copy into a blue section of the survey.
5. Click Insert here at the appropriate location.  You will be asked to confirm the copy action.
6. Click Copy item to continue.  The item will be copied to the location that you chose in step 5.

To copy a question from one draft survey to another draft survey:

1. Locate the question you wish to copy.
2. Click on the  cog at the top right of the question.
3. Choose Copy.
4. Go to your Dashboard.
5. Locate the draft survey that you would like to copy the question into and click Design.
6. Decide where you would like the copy to be inserted.
   • Inserting the copy within another question (inside the brown box surrounding an existing question) will create a sub-question.
   • If you do not wish to create a sub-question, ensure you insert the copy into a blue section of the survey.
7. Click Insert here at the appropriate location.  You will be asked to confirm the copy action.
8. Click Copy item to continue.  The item will be copied to the location that you chose in step 7.

Moving a question

Questions can only be moved within a draft survey.  If you wish to move a question from one survey to another, you must copy it using the instructions above.

To move a question within a draft survey:

1. Locate the question you wish to move.
2. Click on the  cog at the top right of the question.
3. Choose Move.
4. Decide where you would like the question to be inserted.
   • Inserting the question within another question (inside the brown box surrounding an existing question) will create a sub-question.
   • If you do not wish to create a sub-question, ensure you move the question into a blue section of the survey.
5. Click Insert here at the appropriate location.  You will be asked to confirm the move action.
6. Click Move item to continue.  The item will be moved to the location that you chose in step 5.

Deleting a question

Questions can only be deleted from a draft survey.  Deleted questions cannot be recovered and there is no ‘Undo’ option.

To delete a question from a draft survey:

1. Locate the question you wish to delete.
2. Click on the  cog at the top right of the question.
3. Choose Delete.  You will be asked to confirm the delete action.
4. Click Yes to continue.  The question, including any sub-questions, will be permanently deleted.
