Update: The University of Bristol and Jisc have jointly agreed that the service will not now transfer until 4 October 2017. Please see the FAQs for more information.
The University of Bristol has reviewed the range of services it currently offers and has concluded that the BOS service does not fit with its strategic priorities. Recognising the importance of BOS to the HE sector, we have been keen to identify an appropriate organisation that is able to take on the ownership and operation of BOS from the University.
Following a series of discussions, we are delighted to be able to confirm that Jisc has agreed to take on the running of the BOS service. Jisc is already a trusted partner to the HE sector, offering a wide range of services, and we have every confidence that it will continue to develop BOS for the benefit of the sector. For more information on Jisc please go to www.jisc.ac.uk
Jisc has already spoken to a number of BOS service users and the feedback gathered showed how much the sector values the service. Jisc’s initial focus will be on the seamless transition of the service, ensuring the continuation of all current features and maintaining excellent customer service. Following on from this initial period, Jisc intends to continue developing BOS so that it supports the sector’s changing needs.
It is our current intention that the transfer will take place on 1 August 2017, although this could be later once firm transition plans are in place. We have a team in place who are working very hard to ensure any disruption to service is minimised through the transition. For most users of the system there will be minimal impact.
Following the transfer, Jisc will host your data in a secure cloud-based infrastructure with servers located in the Republic of Ireland. This will ensure your data is held and processed in compliance with Data Protection legislation.
